Hitched to the Universe

So here is my next favorite quote about coffee that has nothing to do with coffee.  It is a deservedly famous quote, because it says so much about so much, even coffee.  John Muir said it, though I think he walked across the country carrying a crust of bread and some tea, not coffee.  Here is what he said–“When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe.”
Speaks for itself, doesn’t it?  I mean if I try to focus only on my coffee, before I know it I am thinking about thinking itself, which makes me think about where we are headed in life and who is going along with us, which makes me think about leadership, in a quirky way.
If we don’t stand and stare, we miss the connections.  Drinking coffee makes us stop, even if only for three minutes.  We may start by staring at the cream swirling in the blackness, which for me is a magical moment wherever you are, but with thousands and thousands of neurons snapping in your brain, you don’t know where you might end up.
Next blog I will talk about one of my heroes, an upside down man that comes to my mind when I stop to think about what we are doing here.
